Weeksy's World

Now based in on the Gold Coast, West Australian at heart.

Raised in Perth, Western Australia, Weeksy has spent most of his years in the desert state. Regular weekends "down south" to sample the juice of the Margaret River region saved him from going mad due to the crowds and lack of real waves in metropolitan Perth. "It gets good occasionally at Scarborough, but without Lancelin, Rotto and Down South we'd go nuts for sure! I've also been lucky enough to get up to Kalbarri a couple of times a year for the last few years - Jakes when it's small is a lot of fun, but I leave it to the locals when it gets fired up"

Growing up as a short board surfer, longboard surfing came along mostly by chance: "I was commentating at a few short board comps, and I was asked to MC a longboard comp. I had fun, enjoyed the atmosphere and have competed in longboard surfing ever since. I still ride a shortboard about half the time, they complement each other I reckon"

Representing WA at the National Titles as over 35 state champ in 2008 and 2009, Weeksy qualified in 3rd for the Queensland in 2010 and finished 7th for his new adopted state at the National Longboard Tites. Made it to at least the semis all three years, with highest finish being 4th in 2008.
"Thanks to my longboard mentor Macca (Mark Macnamara - multiple national title holder), I am finally learning to cross-step a little bit, and trying not to do head stands so much in competition. Really surfing's just about having fun though, right?"

WEEKSY BUILDS A "MINI SIMMONS"

With a LOT of help from Steve Barber (Full Force Surfboards Gold Coast), Weeksy has decided to make his own surfboard for the first time.

In recognition of his lack of skills, Weeksy chose to start with a pre-profiled blank, supplied by Shapers Fins and profiled by Steve Del Rosso from Clearwater Surfboards.

With plans for a fairly ambitious resin design, use will be made of a special ingredient - supplied by Shapers Australia - which stops resin from curing until it is exposed to UV light.

Watch along if ever you have thought it was easy to make a board..
